Camryn went to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo with Grandma Linda and Cowboy in early March. Mom was nice enough to write about their day, and let me share it here:
Camryn, Robert and I got to the livestock show early on a Friday morning so we could see the cutting horse competition. When we walked into the arena and Camryn saw all of the participants warming up their horses, she squealed in delight and started what I call the horse sign (which is moving up and down like she’s on her pony, Joe). We watched them for a good thirty minutes.
The arena was miles away from the rest of the exhibits but we started the trek then got picked up by a rodeo volunteer for a free golf cart shuttle. This was extremely exciting (kind of like a carnival ride) as we screeched through the parking lot at top speed, Camryn hanging on to Grandma for dear life (no baby seat). (Just kidding, Jess.)
Next was the petting zoo. She was enamored of the baby goats but really did like the grey chicken the most. From the petting zoo, on to the pony rides! Real live ponies, and again, the up and down bouncing movement started. Pay $6 for a pony ride when she has her own pony??? Heck yeah. She picked a sturdy mount named Linda Lou. The volunteer working the ponies commented on how well she sat a horse. The girl was born to ride.
After that we let her run for a bit – examining all of the stock trailers. Up the ramps or stairs from one trailer to another, running, running, running. Now, it’s nearing lunchtime so we sat down with 1 million other children to enjoy a rodeo hot dog and cup of milk. She was beginning to look most sleepy but never once complained, whined or anything one would expect from a 16 month old. I had thought it may have been too ambitious to take her to the livestock show but she was perfect and enjoyed herself immensely.
She made it through the u-turn on Kirby and then passed smooth out. We carried her in the house where she continued her 3 hour nap. Great fun.
